WHO collaborative studies have been undertaken by international research teams working under the auspicies of the WHO working group on international reference materials for diagnosis and study of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs)

Initial meetings on TSE with WHO, OIE and Working Group on International Reference Materials For Diagnosis and Study of Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs)

WHO Collaborative Study, Characterisation
To develop reference materials to facilitate development of methods for diagnosis and better understandiing of TSE diseases, as well as for the validation of the ability of pharmaceutical proceduress to remove the agents.

WHO Collaborative CJD study (Nomenclature)
To determine the typing and nomenclature of CJD preparations by criteria including banding on Western Blot.

Blood Reference Materials For TSE Testing 
To investigate the characteristics of preparations of human plasma spiked with human brain.

To investigate the characteristics of preparations of human Spleen. 

Evaluation of sensitivity for the detection of PrPsc in various spiked plasma samples.
