NIBSC catalogue lists over 800 biological reference materials. 

Over 90% of WHO International Standards developed for the quality assurance of biological medicines are developed, produced and distributed by NIBSC.  In addition, NIBSC also provides a wide range of secondary reference materials which are established by the WHO, NIBSC, regional pharmacopoeias, national control authorities and manufacturers.  These standards are calibrated against the WHO International Standard to ensure consistency and are used in bioassays on a day to day basis.  NIBSC also develops and provides working reagents for example for use as standards in in vitro diagnostic tests.
