Our team is responsible for the batch release of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccines following European Official Control Authority Batch Release (OCABR) guidelines under UKAS accreditation. Measles and Rubella monovalent and MMR trivalent vaccines are also tested for the World Health Organisation (WHO) as part of the Expanded Programme for Immunisation.

Vaccines are tested by in vitro methods in CCID₅₀ assays.

The group contributes to the drafting of European guidelines that regulate the testing of vaccines against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella or rotavirus (OMCL batch release guidelines, European Pharmacopoeia).  We have also regularly provided to WHO visiting workers training in the techniques and the Quality system required for the testing of MMR vaccines.
