Active involvement in European and International initiatives to improve standardisation and assays for safety, potency, identity and monitoring population immunity are a high priority. Diphtheria or genetically attenuated toxins are often used as carrier proteins in new generation polysaccharide conjugate vaccines. Impact on diphtheria immunity is under investigation together with exploring new routes of delivery.
