Serology Reagents

Serology Reagents

NIBSC produces and distributes standards and reference materials for use in the calibration, validation or quality control of serological assays for microbiology targets. The range of reference reagents available comprises; WHO International Standards, reference panels, and working reagents. Specific information on the reagents listed below can be sourced via the product code hyperlink.

These can be purchased via the products page. For further information contact enquiries.

WHO International Standards

These reagents are produced under the WHO Biological Standardisation programme and are intended for the calibration of secondary reference materials and in the validation of NAT-based assays. They are not intended for routine use. The concentration of each reagent is assigned in International Units (IU). This is an arbitrary value, established by consensus following extensive international studies involving many laboratories. The supply of WHO International Standards is limited to five vials per laboratory per year in order to preserve stocks. The supply of WHO International Reference Panels is limited to two panels per laboratory per year.

QCRU Serology Working Reagents

HPA quality control reagents are serological markers used to monitor reproducibility in diagnostic assays. They give a guide to internal quality performance and help to determine lot-to-lot variation between assays. The HPA supply a wide range of reagents for use with in-vitro diagnostic assays of: HIV, rubella, syphilis, Toxoplasma, hepatitis and more.
