European legislation requires blood derived products to be screened for blood borne viruses. 

NIBSC performs testing for antibodies to HIV-1 and 2 by immunoassay with a range of commercial kits,  testing for HBsAg by ELISA, and HCV RNA and B19 virus as determined by NAT.
